Phase Transitions at Preheating
نویسنده
چکیده
Symmetry restoration processes during the non-equilibrium stage of “preheating” after inflation is studied. It is shown that symmetry restoration is very efficient when the majority of created particles are concentrated at energies much smaller than the temperature T in equilibrium. The strength of symmetry restoration measured in terms of the equivalent temperature can exceed T by many orders of magnitude. In some models the effect can be equivalent to that if the temperature of instant reheating would be close to the Planck scale. This can have an important impact on GUT and axion models. Phase transitions from preheating in gauge theories
We show by studying the Abelian Higgs model with numerical lattice simulations that nonthermal phase transitions arising out of preheating after inflation are possible in gauge-Higgs models under rather general circumstances. This may lead to the formation of gauged topological defects and, if the scale at which inflation ends is low enough, to electroweak baryogenesis after preheating.
متن کاملInflation after preheating
Preheating after inflation may lead to non-thermal phase transitions with symmetry restoration. These phase transitions may occur even if the total energy density of fluctuations produced during reheating is relatively small as compared with the vacuum energy in the state with restored symmetry. As a result, in some inflationary models one encounters a secondary, non-thermal stage of inflation ...

Fluctuations of scalar elds produced at the stage of preheating after in ation are so large that they can break supersymmetry much stronger than in ation itself. These uctuations may lead to symmetry restoration along at directions of the e ective potential even in the theories where the usual high temperature corrections are exponentially suppressed. Our results show that nonthermal phase tran...
متن کاملBaryon number non-conservation and phase transitions at preheating
There are well-known reasons to believe that inflation took place and was followed by reheating to some temperature T R . Before a thermal equilibrium was reached, the coherent oscillations of the inflaton could create the environment in which a resonant non-thermal production of particles could rapidly transfer energy from the inflaton to the other fields. This stage, known as preheating [1], ...
متن کاملMagnetic monopoles from gauge theory phase transitions
Thermal fluctuations of the gauge field lead to monopole formation at the grand unified phase transition in the early universe, even if the transition is merely a smooth crossover. The dependence of the produced monopole density on various parameters is qualitatively different from theories with global symmetries, and the monopoles have a positive correlation at short distances. The number dens...
